Does Your Foundry Insurance policy include Molten Metal Breakout?
‘Molten Metal Breakout’ can be a costly accident, both in terms of clearing up costs and replacing peripheral capital plant that was caught in the flow. Following a recent review it is clear that ‘Molten Metal Breakout’ is not necessarily covered as standard by insurers.
Molten metal breakout can be caused by accidents including faults in furnace linings, defective chains carrying molten metal or damaged crucibles. The effects of ‘Molten Metal Breakout’ can be considerable, depending on where the metal flows and what it damages.
As a highly specialised and fairly unusual accident – but with high cost implications – it is important that foundries check their policies to make sure they have sufficient insurance cover in this area. Most insurers would have a different stance on these type of claims and could involve insurance claims for business interuption as well as damage to property.
Specialist foundry insurance policies available from Andrew Bourne & Co. include this cover as standard.
